An Amazing Weekend & Amazing Grass Shake

As I type this post, I am happy because I had such an amazing weekend with my parents visiting, however also sad because I miss them already. Want to see some of our weekend? It started off with a lunch date at Panera Bread. We have one only 3 miles from our apartment and we definitely take advantage of that!

I ordered the Fuji Apple Chicken Salad and a cup of Black Bean Soup-I pretty much order the same thing every time at every restaurant I go to. Seriously, if you name a restaurant I can probably name my go-to meal.

Jeff ordered his favorite-the Fontega Chicken Panini.

We spent a lot of time with Ollie, but since we are crate training him we had to leave the house every few hours to get him used to being by himself. So we headed to the hotel my parents were staying in and lounged a bit!

(I can't even imagine having a king sized bed. We sleep in a full and this bed was huge!) We spent the rest of the day shopping downtown and eventually decided to eat dinner in. We took ourselves to Trader Joe's and bought a smorgasbord for dinner, including: pizza, mini crab cakes, mini chicken tacos and alfredo dip! Not the healthiest, but since everything was little I didn't feel too guilty about digging in ;) And of course we enjoyed the mini key lime pies I made earlier for dessert! I guess we had a "mini" theme going on. The next morning we met my parents back at their hotel and had an early breakfast.

I felt like a kid again eating these...

We sipped on coffee and tea and enjoyed the company...

The best word to describe this weekend was relaxing. I usually feel the opposite of relaxed when visitors come, since I always feel like I must entertain. But there is nothing my family does better than relax! My parent's had a great time visiting us and their "grandpup" but had to head home to their own pups a few hours ago.

I quickly got to work on a recipe that I used to have up on the blog but lost the pictures for. I finally got around to re-posting this easy and healthy shake recipe. The most important ingredient in this recipe is Amazing Grass:

Amazing Grass is "a perfect blend of alkalizing greens, antioxidant rich whole food fruits and vegetables, immune boosting support herbs, and friendly pre & probiotics." Since nearly 90% of us don't get enough servings of fruits and vegetables each and everyday, this product makes it easy! I usually make this shake for breakfast twice a week (more during the summer) and it keeps me full until lunch.

Ingredients:
  • 1/2 banana
  • 4 ice cubes
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon peanut butter
  • 1 scoop amazing grass
Place all of the ingredients into a blender or magic bullet and blend well! Who doesn't love a chocolate peanut butter banana shake that is SUPER healthy for you? Well...my Dad wouldn't since he despises bananas, but everyone else out there should love this ;)

Don't forget to eat the second half of the banana :)

Jeff helped me grate up some chocolate to add to the top of this shake! You could really add anything to the amazing grass. If you don't like peanut butter or banana, substitute them for coconut or some kind of fruit even.

There are only 30 calories in 1 scoop of amazing grass (the scoop comes in the container). The banana and peanut butter help me stay full all day without tons of calories. This product is also gluten-free and 100% vegan.

So, if you're stuck in a boring breakfast routine, switch it up and try one of these shakes! Or enjoy it after a work-out or afternoon snack. You can find Amazing Grass at Whole Foods or any other local heath grocery store. Ordering offline works too. Hope you give it a try :)

Hey Claire...I bought mine at Whole Foods. I don't think TJ's has it, but could be wrong! Hope you're having a good Monday :)

I went and got some amazing grass today and the stuff to make your smoothie!

Okay so I looked it up on your link and it had a bunch of possibilities including chocolate and berry. Why do you stick to the green and does it make your smoothies taste weird? I love smoothies for breakfast (esp in the summer) but want them to still taste good!

Hi - Just wondering who designed your logo at the top of the page? I need to have someone design a logo for me and I love yours! Thanks!

Kristen-I actually have the chocolate flavor...I think they are all called "Green Superfood." I know Heather Manifold has given the berry flavor to Finlay but he doesn't love it. I've only had the chocolate and love it just because I love chocolate :) It doesn't taste "healthy" to me which is always a plus!

I just bought this last week and am loving it. I have made a smoothie just like this one, except using a frozen banana instead of the ice and with a little bit of chocolate syrup because, well, I love chocolate!!
