Fabric Flower Headband Tutorial

I have always wanted to make a headband, and even put this on our bucket list to be sure that I at least attempted it one day. I had a lot of free time yesterday since Jeff was studying and gave it a shot! It turned out great-I am going to make a ton of these this week and give them out as gifts to people. Not only are they super easy (no sewing required) but also incredibly cheap. I can't even believe I used to buy headbands for over $10.00 in stores!

These flowers are perfect for kids or adults. You can really make anything with them-from headbands to pillows to a pin for a shirt.

Step 1
Choose two different fabrics of your liking. Cut out circles about 3 inches across. The circles don't have to be perfect since you will be folding them anyway, so just cut quickly! After you have about 8-10 large 3 inch circles of one fabric, cut out smaller circles with the other fabric.

(It is easiest to stack the fabric and cut out multiple circles at a time).

Step 2 Next, fold a circle in half (like a taco). Then fold one corner in towards the center, and the other corner in the opposite direction the other way. There should be a point at the bottom of the folded piece of fabric.

Step 3
Hot glue the the folds at the bottom of the "2 cone" folded fabric so it stays together well.

Step 4
Repeat the above step until all of your circles of fabric are folded and look like the above. Then, cut out a piece of felt or thicker fabric in a circle to glue the fabric onto.

Step 5
Start gluing the large folded fabric onto the felt fabric.

(The back should look like the picture above. The front should look like the picture below).

Step 6
Layer on the smaller petals on top of the larger ones already glued down. Once all of the smaller petals are glued down (don't use too much glue so the flower stays fluffy), glue the button of your choice onto the center.

Step 7
Finally, cut out another felt piece of fabric in the shape of a circle and glue it to the back of the headband. This is where you will glue the two felt pieces together.

These would be super cute for little girls! I'm going to buy more fabric tonight and make some kid-friendly ones. But for now, I have an adorable headband for myself :)

I have found so many different patterns for fabric flowers online, so I'll be back next week with another tutorial on a different style of flower!

super cute! I always see cute headbands in stores, too, but there's no way I'm paying $15 or $20 for one!

Those are too cute! You are so talented :)
I wish I looked good in headbands, but my sister does, so I'll make them for her when I get some free time. I can't wait for more tutorials!

Thanks everyone! Claire-I wish these curls were natural! I use a curling iron...but instead of placing my hair "in" the iron, I wrap it around the whole thing and hold it there (if that makes sense). It takes a while so usually only happens once a week :)

These are sooo adorable. I love little DIY projects but I find that I never leave myself enough time to finish them (so then I just have half finished crafts strewn around the house..oops!). I'll definitely have to try these out!

Hi! I found your tutorial through a Google search. Thank you for posting it. I found it very easy to follow. I needed an inexpensive gift for my niece's birthday, and this did the trick! I had everything except the headband on hand. I did sew everything by hand rather than using hot glue (I was scared the button might pop off eventually). Thanks again!

Do you need a plastic or woven headband?
