A Train Ride to NYC
Today Jeff and I crossed "Take a train to NYC" off of our bucket list! We had planned to go into the city yesterday, but I was really sick and thankfully recovered for a fun day today. It was quite chilly, but worth the cold :)
We started off the morning with some hot chocolate from Dunkin Donuts while waiting for the train. Because I am an anal wife, I made us arrive to the train about an hour early...oops. So, we had lots of time to kill-aka, lots of hot chocolate to drink!
After a few minutes (ok a lot of minutes) of waiting, we boarded the train. I get SO nervous on trains :/ Maybe because we just watched the movie Unstoppable. Jeff studied since he has a big test tomorrow, so of course...I took pictures to kill time.
I tried to read Jeff's notes along with him, but couldn't understand a word...
A few necessities for a long day in the city: snacks (fig newtons & trail mix), candy canes, and lip therapy.
First stop: Times Square! The only time I had been here was in 8th grade for a chaperoned filed trip (aka, it was not fun). I was finally able to enjoy all of the lights and stores.
One of the first stores we headed to was the M & M store. I have NEVER in my life seen so much M & M gear (and I really didn't know people loved them so much). I mean, I get the candy-they are good. But backpacks, pajamas, mugs, blankets? It was crazy crowded in there.
These were Giants M & Ms...and the GIANTS WON, whoo hoo!
We went to the Lego Store soon after and found this amazing work:
I "found" an orange lego on the floor, and placed it in my pocket for a souvenir. Finders keepers right? ;)
Around 12:30 our stomachs were rumbling so we stopped for lunch. I honestly can't remember the name of the restaurant, but our only rule for the day was to not eat a chain restaurant. This wasn't...and the food was great!
I ordered a turkey burger with sweet potato fries.
Jeff ordered a Philly cheese steak on an onion roll with regular fries.
We almost were able to cross off "Jeff-eat a pickle" from the bucket list too... NOT. He still hates them and refused to even eat a bite of his sandwich that rubbed up against the pickle juice.
I love nothing more than sweet potatoes during winter months.
Star Wars Minnie Mouse! We had to pay $1 for this picture, but my interaction with the lady underneath this outfit made it SO worth it!
We couldn't leave the city without a pretzel. Of course we would get ripped off and have to pay $4 instead of $2. I guess that's what you get when you don't ask the price BEFORE buying the pretzel. Oh well, it was still good.
A day well spent with the love of my life :)
Question of the day: Have you ever spent a day in NYC? If so, how was your experience? Today was fun, but also very overwhelming. Jeff and I definitely learned that we are more small town folks than city folks :) However I highly recommend going during the Christmas season!
